We've been hearing a lot lately about the value of replacing processed foods - defined by the USDA as a food that has gone through any type of change to its natural state* with unprocessed foods. Any food that comes in a package is processed.**
It's not as simple as processed vs unprocessed because even washing or packaging a food makes it technically a processed food. This means that the fresh fruit and vegetables you purchase in the grocery store are technically processed foods because they've been cleaned and refrigerated.

The bachelor life can be great... with the exception of frozen meals. Recent research done by scientists from Tufts and Harvard Universities revealed that men who eat ultra-processed foods frequently had a bigger risk of developing colorectal cancer compared to those who did not.
The recent study was published in The BMJ. It was discovered that men who ate more ultra-processed foods had a 29% higher risk of the development of colorectal cancer than men who ate much less. This association was not observed in women. In the US, colorectal cancer is the third most diagnosed type of cancer.

Now that you're familiar with the health impact of various processed foods , encourage your clients to plan meals and snacks to include more unprocessed or minimally processed foods. That way they can decrease the amount of ultra-processed foods in their eating patterns.
