Hundreds more confirmed sick in outbreak traced to backyard flocks

In the past month 311 patients have been added to the list of people with Salmonella infections related to contact with backyard poultry flocks. One person has died.
The total of confirmed infections now stands at 474, according to an update from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The sick people live in 46 states, but the outbreak could involve more states and additional patients.
One-third of the confirmed patients are children younger than 5 yers old.

Patient list continues to grow in E. coli outbreak linked to organic yogurt

Another person has been confirmed infected in an E. Coli O157 outbreak linked to organic yogurt from Pure Eire Dairy in Washington state.
Officials with the Washington Department of Health have not released details about the patient, except to say that the person lives in Arizona and is considered a “secondary” case.
Investigations by the Washington health department and the state agricultural department are ongoing. The state health department announced the outbreak on May 12.
